Ultimate Thor
I won Ultimate Thor off of an ebay auction for $40 the other day. At long last the All Father Odin had answered my prayers! Personally, I was excited to finally get my hands on Thor, heralded as the best figure in the game at the time of this writing. But, when I finally got it, I wasn’t that impressed. He looked dumb, plus his dial was impossible to twist. I could barely turn it. He had a bad paint job and no cape. I realize Ultimate Thor doesn’t wear a cape, but I just get past any Thor figure without a cape. As for his powers, I wasn’t really impressed. I like having odd abilities to use. He has pretty much no abilities other than being a behemoth. Now, with that said, he will still be in the next team I assemble.
Why? Simply put, this figure is a monster. I played against a team with him on it just before I wrote this article. I was able to take him down but it was a Pyrrhic Victory. He tied up my entire team for most of the game and the few who were left standing (barely) were swept off the fields of glory like so much debris right after by the rest of my opponent’s force, who were barely touched by the way, since my entire force had been used to defeat Thor. Although he doesn’t have many abilities, he has the best ones. He has Running Shot, Charge and can attack two ranged targets for 5 damage each. With super strength he can deal a maximum of 7 damage. Run away! This is the best figure in the Ultimates set, hands down. He might not see a lot of play in low point constructed games but when you get 400+, I wouldn’t want to play without him.
