Transformers

After sneaking into a local movie theater, our hearts were pounding after slipping past some thirty employees ramping up for the midnight showing of the new Harry Potter movie. Finally sitting in the stadium seating and soft padded chairs, we took the mountain dews that we smuggled into the theater out of our pants and soon we found ourselves wondering how the Transformers would be portrayed to the eager audience. Would it be cartoonish? Could they pull it off with a style that keeps you in your seat? Or will it be an after thought like Star Wars Episode 1? Preview after preview, we yearned just to see the opening credits, until finally, it started! Seeing Steven Spielberg's name, we knew we were going to be in for a good ride.

The movie opened up with a high dose of the United States military located out in the deserts of the Middle East. Screen shot after screen shot of a well thought out and militarily setup base camp, you get to see how these troops get there station setup, then chill and have fun. All fun and games you think to yourself, yet these bad ass marines are bored and looking for some action, sitting around not being able to shoot their over powered firearms. Soon there's an unidentified helicopter moving towards the base, and eventually intel reports that it is one of their own. It can't be, they say, that bird was shot down in Afganistan! Somehow they allow the bird to fly right into their base and land. Right before their eyes this helicopter beautifully transforms into the gigantic metal menace known as Blackout. Destruction begins instantly, devastating most of the base camp and equipment in minutes. For the marines, fighting, running and shooting with everything they have at this futuristic menace is unlike anything they ever encountered in their brutal military training. Running for their lives, it is apparent that this machine is after the military database in search of top secret data. The base camp is soon destroyed, and only a select few survive. And then the movie goes quiet.

Blown away by this opener you soon start to wonder what the heck is going on. As the movie movie progresses; there is a witty charm to it as you learn about the characters involved. And the accompanying music dances around the scenes perfectly balanced and blended.

Soon we meet an awkward high school student named Sam Witwicky who is trying to pawn off his great grandfather's belongings and glasses during his show and tell segment. This young wheel and dealer drools all over the beautiful girl in the classroom that doesn't even notice him. But this kid is important. When we say important, we mean like save the world important. You learn the back-story of how the transformers have found their way to the planet Earth and are in search of a being known as Megatron. Storylines pickup, characters are introduced and the soundtrack continues on amazingly. The movie starts do develop into a highly intense worldwide situation as parts of the US government's computer systems are hacked by Frenzy, who has taken on Soundwave's role, one of the only complaints we have with the film.

Of course, one of the best parts of this movie is Megan Fox. She plays Mikaela Banes, who at first she is caught up in her life of hanging out with the cool and elite kids at school, but also finds herself bored with them. Sam decides to try to go after this amazingly beautiful woman and tries to pick her up in his beat up Camaro, not knowing his car was actually robot in disguise, who was helping him mack on this beautiful female. Her hotness is ramped up even higher when she pops the hood and starts looking around at the internals. Spouting out words about engines and how her understanding of cars far surpasses the car's actual owner, this chick is definately hot. Luckily, she's along with him for the rest of the movie, and is super interested in his quirkiness. Even with her insulting comments about BumbleBee, she ends up getting him an upgraded brand new pre-release Camaro from her complaining. She's the token hot girl in the movie, but she is above most with her character's interests and actions. She's a tough cookie, with a tough body and tough tattoos. Megan Fox is an obvious asset to this movie and fits the role perfectly.

The graphics of all transformer beings, whether autobot or decepticon, are splendid. This was no hack job Disney Pixar Toy Story digital graphics. These were beyond mastered and perfected graphics, and when we sit back and think about it, we can't but wonder if the actual movie was designed, written, produced and directed by transformers themselves, under the leadership of Optimus Prime. The first time you see the transformers logo in the movie you are thinking to yourself: yes! Bad-ass! There's only one scene where the silly transformer cheesy humor goes over the top, and it seems to drag on forever. Other than that, the whole movie has great action and story. The ending is quite abrupt, and left us somewhat bewildered that all this built up suspense had just ended in 1.38 seconds. Overall the graphics, story, women and directing were all amazing in this movie. It was one of the most beautifully orchestrated movies we've seen in a while.
