Top 10 Reasons Oasis is Better than The Beatles

oasis3g1.jpgEver since Oasis has been called one of the greatest bands of all time, they have also been called Beatles copy cats. This is unfortunate as Oasis are better than The Beatles. The staff of Old-Wizard.com listens to Oasis about 10 times the amount of time we spend listening to The Beatles. We thought to ourselves, “What makes Oasis so much better than the Beatles”? This question was easy for us, and we came up with ten reasons in less time than it takes a Beatles fan to call Oasis a “rip off”. We hope these next reasons give some credence to the Oasis enterprise, if not totally change the mind of all those music fans who like to bash Oasis for some unfounded reasons. Say to yourself right now, “are you ready to say that Oasis are better than the Beatles?” Here we go!

10. Better Walks

Who has a more powerful walk than Liam Gallagher in the whole music industry? His walk defined a generation of carefree ruffians looking to start bands and smoke cheap hash. Paul McCartney on the other hand walked like a dandy going to a candy store with his mother. Liam Gallagher epitomized the cool in the rock star class with his long strides and waving hands. Paul McCartney defined the prissy attitude of following directions and not going outside of the lines sonically. No one can walk as cool as Liam Gallagher. Everyone who has ever been coddled by their mother can walk like Paul McCartney.

9. Less Competition

This is an obvious one. The Beatles had little to no competition. They didn’t start pop music either (taking away their innovation credence). This was reserved for Buddy Holly. Oasis on the other hand had to fight off 40 years of great rock and pop music. They not only fought it off with the grace of a Mexican lightweight, but also created some of the most memorable pop music of all time. After that long of pop music, Oasis still created some of the most memorable songs of the genre. This is a definite advantage for Oasis.

8. Better Amps

For most of the Beatles career, they used plain sounding vox amps that epitomized the “60′s British era”. These amps carried no sound and sounded small. Oasis on the other hand used a variety of amps they made their sound crush the Beatles. During “Definitely Maybe” and “What’s the Story Morning Glory”, they used massive Marshall Stacks they echoed beyond the venues they played at. During their later albums like “Don’t Believe the Truth”, they used an assortment of the best Fender reissues that gave that album a strong character not heard by any other band of the year. The Beatles guitar sound is basic pop rock while Oasis’s guitar sound is as large and growling as the Mana Beast from Secret of Mana. Anyone can get the Beatles guitar sound. Not everyone can get Oasis’s.

7. Better Dressers

oasis-5456.jpgThe Beatles for much of their career were stuck to plain suits that looked like businessmen coming out of a 401 k disbursement meeting. Oasis on the other hand looked as styling as a GQ magazine with the edge The Stones aesthetic. Anyone who got into Oasis in the mid 90′s saw Liam Gallagher’s moccasin shoes and bought them right after. These shoes epitomized the blithe attitude of being great but not having to tell everyone about it. When the Beatles finally dropped their bland business demeanor, they adopted junkie 60′s garb that probably smelled as bad as they looked. The mesh of all different styles couldn’t compare to Oasis’s immaculate fashion style. Look at any pictures of these bands and one will be able to tell the difference.

6.Cooler Haircuts

The Beatles haircuts were boring boring boring! The mop top made the real music listener yawn in fashion agony. Liam Gallagher on the other hand had a variety of hairstyles that all became the vogue of cool Britannia in the mid 90′s. Everywhere you looked, people had haircuts like Liam. It was not a simple banal mop top, but a flowing length of rock hair perfectly suited to all sexes alike. This androgynous quality in hair made Liam more dragon breed than exquisitely British breed. For this transcendence in haircut, Oasis get a rank above The Beatles again.

5. Hotter Girlfriends

Both Paul McCartney and John Lennon dated sub average looking women. Lennon not only dated a sub average woman, but dated a plain grotesque woman in Yoko Ono. Only George Harrison had a hot chick and she was soon taken away by the basic bluesman Eric Clapton. Oasis on the other hand all had supermodel Girlfriends. Liam’s early bird Patsy Kensit made all men yearn to be the rock star so they could procure this beauty. Alan White (their former drummer) was dating models every other month covering the catwalk London circle as quick as Wilt Chamberlin covering a post-game hotel bash. Liam is now with All Saints singer Nicole Appleton who is as hot as she is a sensual singer. Look at all the g/f’s of the members of Oasis and one will find only the most hot looking women. The Beatles on the other hand were dating girls that looked like average high school girls.

4. Better Stories

The Oasis stories are always more entertaining than The Beatles’ stories. The Beatles have anthologies written about them that never cover more than their basic drug addictions. Oasis on the other hand is a story waiting to happen at every corner. At the heart of this argument is the volatile relationship between the brothers Gallagher. They fought, made up and fought again over their whole career giving photographers, biographers, and fans something to talk about. Their stories are more exciting than the Beatles stories of Paul McCartney pretending to smoke has but not really smoking hash (in case anyone didn’t know, McCartney made up the fact that he smoked hash. He just wanted to fit in as a rebel.) Oasis were the real deal with the rock star life that couldn’t be feigned. The same couldn’t be said for The Beatles.

3. Better Vocals

liamgallagher_855_18545789_0_0_7001329_300.jpgWhile John Lennon certainly hit his stride in “A Day in the Life”, he was left alone to the more mopey vocals of Paul McCartney to compliment his heavenly delivery. This was not the case with Oasis. Both Liam and Noel Gallagher had great voices. Liam is arguably one of the greatest rock signers of all time delivering a growl as loud as a mountain Lion. Noel on the other hand matched Lennon’s quality in heavenly delivery with songs such as “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “The Masterplan”. Of course, The Beatles also had George Harrison on their side, but he did not get enough songs to sing to be able to count him as one of the main singers in the band. Because McCartney’s voice was so boring that Oasis win in the vocal department.

2. More dedicated

Oasis tour the globe all the time. Every time they release an album, you can find them in places as far off as Japan to New York City. The Beatles on the other hand quit touring after awhile because they “just wanted to stay in the studio”. They were just lazy and didn’t want to work for the fan base they already had. While this may seem acceptable for the regular music listener, it wasn’t for the avid music fan who wanted to see their favorite band in their favorite band. Count how many shows Oasis played in their lifetime, then count how many the Beatles played and one will see how much more dedication Oasis has over them. No bitching, no side albums, no lack of touring. Oasis are always there for you as THE rock band to see.

1.Better Songs

Looking over the catalogs of both bands, we find it easy to decide Oasis as the winner in this aspect. Not only were Oasis’s A-Sides some of the most memorable songs to come out of pop music, but their non-singles were just as classic. Just take a look at “Columbia” “Girl in the Dirty Shirt” and “It’s Getting Better Man”. Not only were all their album tracks classic, but all their b-sides were also classic. Anyone who has heard songs like “The Masterplan” and “Fade Away” will understand the power of their b-sides alone. Where does this leave The Beatles? It leaves them to their singles which of course were great in their own right, but when looking over their entire output, Oasis was actually more consistent when including basic album tracks and B-Sides. For this most important reason, Oasis is better than The Beatles.

  1. Sara says:

oh man what a shite article. let me dissect this article and deliberate on each of the points that you mentioned.

    10. Better Walks.
Are you shitting me? This is one of the reasons Oasis is better than the Beatles? They had better walks? Not only is the poster an idiot for ‘noticing’ their walks but it is also a bit of a shitty point. Just shows he couldn’t come up with anything else.

    9. Better Competition
Oh so The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Cream, the Yardbirds, Bob Dylan, The Byrds (I could go on) are not considered better competition than Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears? Ohhh kayyyyy. You have a crap taste in music it seems.

    8. Better Amps
That is not an achievement of Oasis. Technology had not advanced to that level back in the 60′s. It shows nothing. On the contrary, the Beatles made better music than Oasis with amps which were probably less than half as good.

    7. Better Dressers
Again, this does not show Oasis’ superiority over the Beatles. But err, fine. I’ll reply to this one aswell. The Beatles wore suits for the first 3 years of their career. And even those were pretty gosh darn spiffy. You can’t go much wrong with suits. So your argument is a fail. Oasis openly rip off the Beatles style meaning they too like the style meaning that your argument just failed.

    6. Better Hairstyles
Another ridiculous argument. Before the Beatles no one dared to grow their hair long. Boring? I think not. Liam Gallaghar can go duck a sick. Everyone has ‘cool’ hairstyles these days. He’s not influential at all. Where as the Beatles gave teenage boys all over the world the courage to grow out their own hair.

    5. Hotter girlfriends
Jeez man I understand that you desperately needed more points but seriously?! This one beats the previous points, which is saying a lot. The Beatles didn’t date hot chicks? Pattie Boyd, Jane Asher, Linda McCartney, Barbara Bach. Now finding someone hot is just a matter of taste but the fact remains that the Beatles got laid more often than the Gallagher brothers back in the day. With better looking chicks too.

    4. Better stories
Oh man. The Beatles have several movies and books written about them. Even books/movies specifically for one Beatle. I can’t say the same for Oasis. And I find it hard to take you seriously after your ‘Paul McCartney pretended to smoke hash..’ statement. Did the guy rape your sister or something? Chill. Out.
    Anyway. Your point failed. Again.

    3. Better Vocals
wow that pretty much confirmed the fact that you have some sort of personal vendetta against Paul McCartney. Paul can reach a ridiculous amount of notes and is one of the greatest rock singers of the 20th – 21st century. John Lennon had an amazing voice too, as did George Harrison. Fact. Oasis sounds alright in the studio but their live performances are pretty much horrendous. The Beatles could perform songs just as good and sometimes better than their studio versions. Proof being the rooftop concert (look it up)

    2. Dedication
The Beatles stopped touring in 1966. Why? Because they couldn’t hear themselves sing over the screams of their fans. Yep. The screams of those adoring boys and girls completely drowned out their sound. Making touring pointless. The Beatles achieved triple the success Oasis has with lesser dedication. Nice.

    1. Better Songs
The Beatles have had more number one hits than any other artist, let alone Oasis. Meaning the rest of the world thinks the Beatles are better too. Anthology is basically a compilation of the unused takes and random songs the Beatles recorded but didnt release and even THAT sold like hot cakes. Sure Oasis have had 3,4 good songs but even those don’t compare to the impressive singles (and even b-sides and random songs) the Beatles recorded.

it seems that the person who wrote this article knew a lot about oasis but hardly anything about the Beatles. as a person who has studied and heard songs both by Oasis and the Beatles I think the Beatles are way way better. Oasis isn’t even a close second.
