Top 10 Easiest Video Games of All Time

What makes a game easy? How about an unlimited amount of lives? How about an unlimited amount of continues after you’ve  lost all your lives? How about a seemingly never ending amount of energy? There is something noticeable about all these traits that make a video game easy. All these traits are embodied in most new video games that are released. Gone are the days of working hard to beat a game. Sure, you could beat Contra in ½ an hour, but achieving the skill level of mastering the game took months, if not years. Today’s games are long, and require no mastery to accomplish. With what seems like an unlimited amount of life for the protagonists of new games, comes a gaming disposition that is ubiquitously lazy and lacking in patience. Fight your way to the end of the game without focusing on anything specifically. In this list then, we will go through the top 10 easiest games of all time with the central theme being that new games in the video game medium define what it is to be an easy game. Oh yeah, we will include one old game, but at #10.

10. Kirby’s Dream Land

Playing Kirby’s Dreamland is like playing your grandfather in basketball. Nothing will get in your way and you will quickly win. I remember playing this game for the first time when it came out for Gameboy and not losing a life until level 5. After this I never lost a life again until the final boss. All in all, I lost two lives on my way towards conquering Kirby’s Dreamland after playing through the game once. Not only was there nothing that was difficult for Kirby to float by, but the bosses were enormously predictable on immediate appearance. The next games in the Kirby series would appropriately be more difficult but this first installment was such a breeze, you actual were angry you spent money on the game itself (luckily it was Gameboy and cheaper than a non-handheld platform game).

9. Time Splitters: Future Perfect

With a game like Time Splitters, the challenge of the game was getting to 100% completion. Just being able to beat the game wasn’t diffcult. Unfortunately for Time Splitters: Future Perfect though, getting to 100% was not much more difficult than conquering the game without regard to the percentage. Give yourself 5 days and you will easily have reached the 100% mark that is so coveted in games of this design. Time Splitters 2 though was a whole different ball game. You could continually play this game for years afterward because of the well designed difficulty which make the replay ability far stronger that Future Perfect. Timesplitters 2 was a better game in general with better maps and overall challenges throughout. Within the series the 2nd installment was the game to play.

8. Spyro the Dragon

Spyro the Dragon never had it so easy. This game for the PS1 was aesthetically fun to watch, but the requirements for finishing levels were no task at all. Freeing the dragons of each “hub” was inanely easy. The final boss fight is as easy as Gannon in Ocarina of Time. He should be beat after the 2nd time playing him at most. In Spyro the Dragon, it seems like every enemy in the game has no defense power. With one or two shots by Spryo, all enemies in the game would be done for. This certainly didn’t give the gamer the sense of difficulty they wanted when playing a video game traversing a world of dragons and its enemies. This was another game that was ideally strong, but too easy to be considered memorable.

7. Zelda Ocarina of Time

Zelda Ocarina of Time departed from the perfect difficulty level engineered in the past Zeldas. One of the great challenges of past Zelda games was the difficulty of Ganon at the end of the game. In Ocarina of Time though, Ganon would easily be defeated on first try with his predictable maneuvering and mettle. Beyond the obfuscating ease of the final boss was the fact that you could save the game any time you wanted, which never gave the gamer a sense of suspense in finding the next save spot. Remember playing Super Metroid? Those save spots were hard to come by and well deserved; Ocarina of Time though will give you a save spot on command. These two traits made Ocarina of Time too easy of a game to stand up in the Zelda series.

6. Destroy all Humans!

Destroy all Humans! for the Xbox sounded easy because of the title alone. Do you think that destroying a world as simple and mediocre as ours would be difficult for an alien species that can travel between star systems? Maybe it’s Old-Wizard’s sub-conscious misanthropy, but we knew this game was going to be as easy as the title suggested and it was. The humans in the game all seem clueless, speaking 20th century capitalist philosophy and running around with no purpose. Destroying the multitudes of humans in this game is a quick and easy journey. Of course that doesn’t mean it’s not fun taking down our species.

5. Lego Star Wars

Lego Star Wars is the clearly the easiest game in the Star Wars series on the video game medium, which is certainly a change for a series that could be incredibly difficult (anyone remember the Star Wars games for the SNES?). Lego Star Wars was too easy, which may had much to do with the game clearly being geared towards a younger audience. There is actually no way to lose in Lego Star Wars. Beyond this, the game is small. Getting through the three episodes presented in this game could be done in less than two hours on the first try. There’s much to explore in the game and finely textured graphics, but without any punishment for failure, it is really only geared for that one audience it was intended for.

4. Morrowind

Morrowind is a strong RPG in an age where strong RPG games are lacking. This game though is seriously flawed in how easy it is for an RPG. If you playing this game as a fighter, there would be no challenges anywhere through the game. The worst part about it is that the game progressively gets easier rather than getting more difficult, or at least staying at the same level. You may be easily satisfied running your way through this game as a fighter, but once you beat it, this satisfaction will be lost with the knowledge of the perfect challenge brought by games like Final Fantasy 3,7, and Secret of Mana. Your only chance at making this game anywhere close to difficult is playing as a Mage, and even this is no guarantee that it will reach a moderate difficulty level.

3. Fable

Fable, for the acclaimed Xbox, proved to be one of the more interesting ideas in the new video game medium. It’s challenge level was not up to snuff to compete with the strong idea developed throughout the game. There’s probably no other game where its easier to level up in than Fable. On top of this, you can save right before every big battle. This made fighting bosses a cakewalk because of how the quickness in which they could be mastered. The bosses themselves can be beaten on first try most of the time, so the saving right before is superfluous. The resource of money needed throughout the game was as easy to obtain as the rolling ball in the beginning of Metroid. Fable was a great idea, but without a doubt needed to be more difficult.

2. Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy is an amazing game. It’s innovation and general aesthetic fit in with the best of the Marios. Unlike the old Marios though, this game is way too easy. To start off, the bosses are just too easy. They looked a bit too friendly also, making one pretty sure that this game was designed for the younger in age. Beyond the bosses, the whole game revolves around collecting 60 power stars which is way too quick for how large and magnificent the world looks in appearance. Luckily, after the main game is finished, you can go back and try to collect all 120 power stars which creates a little bit more of a puzzling challenge. All in all, this doesn’t come close to the perfect difficulty level of the best in the series like Mario 1, and Mario 3.

1. Kingdom Hearts 2

Why was Kingdom Hearts 2 so easy? Why are we saying that this seemingly massive game that takes 20 to 25 hours to beat is easy? While the game takes literally forever to beat, it is almost impossible to die. There are save points everywhere, but its not like you really need them. Forget the boss battles being any challenge to you. The boss battles are on par with fighting the bat in the first level of Castlevania for Nintendo. Forget Hades and his raised dude from the dead being any challenge to you. You will finish him off in less than a minute. Kingdom Hearts 2 is a straight forward button masher, and it doesn’t take much skill in order to beat it. This game and others like it are in contrast to the games from the 8 and 16 bit eras like Contra that you could beat under half an hour, but they actually take days of practice just to get through the first few levels.

  8. godwalker says:

  9. avi says:

how does calling kingdom hearts 2 easy make you a sony hater???

  10. Brianna says:

WHAT THE FUCK?!?! Your an ass hole because Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II are fucking hard!! On the Final mix of II the hardest difficulty killed my soul! Your an idiot!!!

Next time play the game before making a dumbass article, Kingdom Hearts I is much harder because it takes so long, longer than FF3!!!

  11. Brianna says:

WHAAAT? Kingdom Hearts II is not the easiest game in the world, quite frankily, i think it is number 1 of the most hardest games, it requires lots of skill just to beat a friggin boss.

  12. LEGONESFISH says:

for the most part i agree with you, however i think ocarina of time is quite a challenging game. but hey, it’s your opinions and that’s what makes OW so cool

  13. Durham1984 says:

    Agree, Kingdom Hearts 2 = EZ-mode =D

  14. Delta says:

Brianna, how are they assholes because they found the game easy? And oh the irony of “your an idiot!!”

And MORROWIND was found easy? I never played it, but several friends on LIVE didn’t like OBLIVION because they said it was too easy compared to MORROWIND. Saw the same stuff on forums. So if MORROWIND is so easy, why wasn’t OBLIVION on the list?

  15. Avi says:

    wtf? kh2 and oot?

  16. Avi says:

”that the game was designed for the younger” name one nintendo game that is not a kid’s game.

  17. Roto13 says:

“name one nintendo game that is not a kid’s game.”

Eternal Darkness, Metroid, Killer Instinct (yes, it was a Nintendo game at the time). Don’t be ignorant.

  18. Avi says:

ok, so that is 3 games.

  19. Avi says:

    I onky asked for one.

  20. Avi says:

I guess I should have been more specific and specified ”mario game” rather than ”nintendo game.”

  21. Delta says:

You should’ve Avi, ‘cuz here’s some more Nintendo published games that aren’t made for kids. GOLDENEYE 007, PERFECT DARK and CONKER’S BAD FUR DAY,

  22. TwiTchy says:

    OMG there not 16-bit games!!!!

  23. yep says:

meh, I agree KH2 was sort of easy, but it sure as hell is not as easy as a lot of other games.

  24. Danny Burr says:

Whilst I enjoy a lot of the articles on this website, especially the Top Lists (well, I run a similar site myself, of course I enjoy it), this is the first article that I’ve felt compelled to comment on… Well second, but first I HAVE commented on.

Ocarina of Time…. One of the easiest games of all time?

I’d rank the Water Temple as one of the most difficult and frustrating dungeons in video gaming history. Hands-down. Granted, the rest of the game is devoid of the overall difficulty some of the previous installments offered, the Water Temple alone made up for it.

Then again, I’m one of those retro gamers that still respected the PSX and N64 – It was afterward that console gaming suffered it’s royal raping. Although many titles of the PSX sure as hell set the launching pad for the decline of true gaming.

    -Danny Burr.

  25. Max says:

If you guys really think Kingdom Hearts 2 is hard then you must really suck at video games. I knew it was going to be #1 on this list without even looking. And what’s with the “sony hater” comments? It’s not like Zelda and Mario aren’t on this list too! Besides, just because a game is easy doesn’t mean it isn’t still fun.

  26. CaptainAustralia says:

    Ocarina, really?

Wow, you guys are getting REALLY desperate when you put something on your list that you KNOW people are going to disagree with.

    Water temple, much.

  27. jv says:

So…the article is telling us that Kingdom Hearts 2 is easier to beat than Lego Star Wars…who ever wrote this article is a moron. Try playing video games first before you write an article about video games. Out of all the articles I have seen in this site, this one has to be the worst and inaccurate article Ever.

  28. Furyof5 says:

Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time doesnt stand up to the other Zelda games? Are you serious? This is the best Zelda game ever created, BAR NONE. This game is consistantly voted greatest video game EVER and yet you says “it doesn’t stand up to the other games”. This shows you either know nothing about video games, or are nothing more than a pretentious asshole.

  29. BERSERKR says:

Kingdom Hearts 2 is a pretty easy game, but does that make it a bad game? far from it, and while most of the game may be easy, try fighting Sephiroth, even on easy the guy is a beast.

  30. Kattula x says:

DO NOT DISS KINGDOM HEARTS!! I MEAN IT!!
HOW THE HELL IS IT THE EASIEST GAME EVER?????
THERE ARE LOOOOOAAAADS OF OTHER GAMES THAT ARE EASIER THAN IT!!! YOU TALK CRAP, YOU BETTER CHANGE THAT LIST… I THINK KINGDOM HEARTS SHOULD GO TO NUMBER 1 ON BEST GAME EVER LIST!! SO HAA!

  31. Andrew says:

Man, I loved Ocarina of Time. You’re a wicked and evil man for speaking against it! :P

  32. Jenny says:

Morrowind is NOT easy. The fighting system is horrible, and will cause you to die many a time. Good game though.

  33. ObviousTroll says:

Kirby Super Star Ultra should be number 1. I beat the game in 2 hours.

  34. da_white_g says:

Man, what an ass, I loves Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. It not that easy and not that hard either. I still beat Sepiroth in Proud Mode. Still hard. Not hardest tho.

  35. George says:

I don’t care that Galaxy is easy, Nintendo will never make up for the fact that The Lost Levels were the hardest games of all time. I defy anyone to beat them.

  36. Furyof5 says:

    I have :D

  37. chadness says:

Dude, kingdom hearts 2 is not easy if u play it on its hard mode. Begginer mode, i admit, to die u actually have try to die. On proud mode, even the weakest enimies( shadows, creepers, ect.) can kill you if your not careful. It takes tons of skill and stratagey to beat the main bosses ( demyx, luxord, xigbar, saix, xemnas) as most of them only take 3-7 hits to kill you. And dont get me started on sephiroth. He can kill you in 3 seconds unless you learn his fighting style move for move. So what im sayin is, all games are easy on easy, play it on hard before you call it an easy game though.

  38. Az says:

Ocarina of Time? Easy? Are you kidding me?

    TWO WORDS. WATER. TEMPLE.

  39. Mooby says:

How is Portal not on the list?

  40. cris says:

Umm, you forgot secrets of monkey island for #1.
Ctrl +w = WIN THE DAMN GAME IN LESS THAN 1 SECOND!!!!

  41. ZeldaFan says:

Mostly I agree with you guys, but this time, I don’t. OoT is the greatest game ever made and has an amazing difficulty. Sure some earthier games were harder, but it had the perfect difficulty, if sometimes unfair. It took me two, count ‘em two, years to beat the Water Temple; even with my older brother and younger brother there to help me, damn secret hole in the middle tower.

  42. Entropy says:

I don’t know that you’ve ever tried to traverse the water temple. This is a seriously flawed list if you’re putting LoZOoT on there because “Ganon was too easy”. Ridiculous criteria.
