Physics
I am often asked by many: What is physics? The answer I often give is: "You don’t know?!" The answer of one who has received a degree in the discipline. But the fact of the matter is that many of us would much rather not give the subject any thought. And why should we, I mean the word “physics” being all formal and such. Scary, scary stuff. But what many of us don't realize is that we do know a lot of physics. We experience the impact of nature and its laws everyday. From the drive to work while burning our mouths on that cup of coffee, to hanging out on the beach watching the tides roll in and out, in and out … we are all subject to and must interact with our surroundings. I am not going to say that we all need to know what the Planck Length is or the wave function which accurately defines particle X’s location probability. No. Rather we should know why the sky is blue (and no not because of the oceans, water is clear…usually…) or how come we see ourselves in a mirror (unless you're a vampire of course) or what produces storms and lighting, and so on.
Some things you'll learn here:
The interaction of light with stuff: blue, orange, vanilla skies.
The cheese on my pizza is hot while the crust is warm.
Quantum mechanics is nutty but let’s not take it that far buddy.
Why did they kick out Pluto from our posse anyway?
Who the hell is Schrodinger and who cares about his cat?
Black Holes!?
